Song choice - Home among the Gumtrees – John Williamson 

 John Williamson’s, ‘Home among the Gumtrees’, is an ode to the Australian dream of a simple home and full of references to iconic Australian imagery. These themes resonate in my work, ‘The Fibro Majestic’.

I stumbled upon this quintessential Australian house in the back streets of Woy Woy; a small town on the Central Coast. I was drawn to the whimsical but thoughtful presentation by the owners of this simple fibro constructed dwelling. Despite its modesty, it is rich in colour and pride, adorned with national icons of a picket fence, the national flag and a gum tree out the back.  In an eccentric, inclusive addition, a Greek statue adorns the front yard.
