‘La Niña Blues’ at Sydney Road Gallery is the first Sydney solo exhibition for Noosa artist Ben Lucas. The new series of paintings are a response to coastal light and the moods of the sea and sky over the last year. An open distillation of the light, colour and translucency absorbed over this time.
The paintings hold a sense of imminence - something is about to happen or may just have happened, reflecting the unpredictable nature of the La Niña weather cycle. Ben’s work carries a strong presence and often evokes a deep emotional response in the viewer taking them into themselves as well as into the subject matter and leaving a sense of calm.
