MICHELLE BALL

Michelle Ball is an Australian contemporary artist known for her paintings based on themes of history and care for the Australian bush. Her works are a reflection of her deep-rooted passion for capturing the beauty of our fragile environment. “Fowlers Gap, now an arid zone scientific research station, in NSW, is a place where observation of the landscape creates ongoing stories.” For the story of Travelling West it begins with searching for colour. My artistic expression, I see serves as a powerful medium to raise awareness and advocate for the preservation of our planet. Since travelling with the Bob Brown Foundation, Art for Takayna, (TAS) to bring awareness to the destruction of the old growth rainforests, I decided to travel to an arid zone, for contrast! Fowlers Gap being one of only 15 arid zone research and educational centres in the world. It also attracts contemporary landscape painters. The flora and fauna endangered species have been an attraction for me to study but once there, the open space, the colour of the landscape took all my attention and more.
