A Story of Translation. INTERPLAY brings together the talents of artists Cassandra Ng and Marie Schlederer for a brilliant duo show at Sydney Road Gallery.
The two artists exhibit their latest individual works inspired by music, form, colour and light.
Cassandra’s work is based on the concept of Synaesthesia, which is the crossing of senses where an individual might experience sound as colour. This form of Synaesthesia is called Chromesthesia. She uses morse code to tap out lyric lines of songs and couples them with carefully curated colour palettes to reflect the feel of the song. Cassandra creates work that has a visual reverberation to capture the movement of music.
Marie’s work explores how colour affects us as physical, emotional and spiritual human beings. She is fascinated by light refractions seen through glass prisms and how they become colour fractals, creating portals of infinite space in dancing harmonies of coloured light. Her work merges these concepts of colour as a multi-dimensional contribution to our senses by building up transparent layers of colour and organic abstract shapes. These morph before the viewer’s eyes, capturing infinite awakenings of emotions and moments in colour, space and time.
