Oil & Acrylic on Canvas, Framed
Both these paintings are from a series of work that consists of women who are either standing or sitting, crouched or squatting, folded and/or sleeping. Their whole figure is captured within the borders of the canvas as a metaphor for society trying to control, restrain and measure women. Each woman makes the space her own and displays a quiet reliance.
The striped lines accentuate the movement of the figure within the constrained space, and gives the artwork a graphic quality that contrasts with the painted realism of the skin tones. Posca paint pens are used for the lines of the clothing, and oil paint is used for the skin tones.
