ELLE FRANCE

I am a Perth-based fine artist working primarily in oil painting, drawing inspiration from the vibrant colours of nature and the emotive traditions of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. After four decades of teaching art and leading secondary art departments across Western Australia, I now focus full-time on developing my personal practice and exhibiting nationally. My artistic style is grounded in drawing and colour theory, with expressive brushwork that explores the interplay between abstraction and representation. Working en plein air allows me to capture the spontaneous light and rhythm of natural environments, while studio-based works often focuses on still life and florals, providing a contemplative space to explore the dynamics of light and dark, colour, and compositional harmony. Organic forms—landscapes, foliage, flowers, and fruit—feature prominently in my compositions, alongside figurative studies. Through these subjects, I aim to create visual narratives that invite viewers to pause and reflect. Since turning professional in 2022, my work has been exhibited with Aspire Gallery (Brisbane), Art Lovers Australia (Melbourne), and Melville Open Studios (WA), and is available online through Bluethumb. I’ve been honoured with multiple recognitions, including Winner of the Oil Painting Category at the Wylie Art Awards (2024) and finalist placements in several state and national competitions. Art continues to be both a passion and a lifelong journey of exploration—one that has come full circle from education to personal expression.
