The ocean is often photographed for its power and spectacle. In this series I am drawn to its quieter movements. Using longer exposures, the surface of the water softens into lines, textures and subtle rhythms. As waves fold into one another and currents intersect, the sea begins to resemble landscape or sound, revealing patterns normally hidden within its motion. These photographs are small studies of balance, tension and flow — moments where water briefly becomes abstract before returning to the familiar shape of a wave.
Fabio Silvestre is a photographer whose work explores the subtle movement and evolving surface of the ocean. Originally from Brazil and now based between Fiji and Australia, his practice is shaped by a close and ongoing relationship with the sea. Working primarily with longer exposures,Fabio moves beyond traditional surf imagery to create abstract studies where water becomes texture, rhythm and form. His work spans both commercial and artistic fields, with a background in wedding, lifestyle and surf photography. In recent years, he has focused on developing a more personal body of work centred on observation, light and movement.
