This series is an exploration of Pittwater and its surrounds. The focus is on the key elements of water, sandstone, gum trees and open sky. To me, this is the language of this place. What I see, what I sense and what I remember when I am away. These paintings are an amalgamation of views, experiences and memories. As such, they touch on a relationship developed in a place. A relationship built over time from boyhood. One of wonder, silence, awe and inspiration. They are also paintings in which I am trying to express more than what is before me. They are a way to connect to the power of nature when it is devoid of a human presence. A way to present this place beyond its Northern Beaches cliches. A way to develop a visual language to express and describe what I feel when I am here. More than this, they are an attempt to make sense of being in this old landscape where I feel such a strong energy, one that holds the clues of this place well before my time.
