SOLO Exhibition: TRICIA TRINDER EXPANDING HORIZONS FEBRUARY 22 - MARCH 18

Sydney Road Gallery presents a new series of encaustic works by Tricia Trinder.  Horizons draw our attention outwards rather than inwards and encourages us to contemplate what is beyond, Tricia has created an immersive experience in this beautiful horizon series.

GROUP SHOW  'STUDIO STORIES' FEBRUARY 22 - MARCH 18

The new group exhibition 'Studio Stories' explores how artists work, how they create. Artists seek time and space for creating, often they are inspired by their surroundings, the places they find themselves as well as the spaces they seek. Inside a studio or outside contemplating their surroundings, artists are constantly observing.

"Often our studios are our sanctuary where we patiently wait for deep creativity to arise.  There we witness our work come to fruition and take the courageous steps of sharing our views of the world through visual story telling"

THE VIEW OF TWO

February 1 – February 18

Sydney Road Gallery presents two new exhibitions - ‘The View of Two’ by talented artists Amanda Tye and Monique Tyacke and a group show ‘Love Is’.

‘The View of Two’, a duo show of modern landscape paintings, is a celebration of Summer, capturing beautiful scenes around the Northern Beaches. Both artists draw inspiration from their local area, but interpret it in a completely different way.

Amanda Tye works in a variety of mediums and captures an emotional response to the landscape. She works on a large scale and sections the view into shapes, capturing snippets of her surroundings on the one surface.

Monique Tyacke works in both colour and black & white, and simplifies the details while still leaving enough of a representation for the viewer to interpret the painting in an engagingly graphic way.

a solo show ‘11:11’ by Catriona Pollard along with a group show ‘Abundance’

Sydney Road Gallery presents two new exhibitions

The synchronicity of now – new sculptural exhibition transforms common plant material into contemporary and inspired ‘moments’

Acclaimed Sydney fibre artist Catriona Pollard unveils her latest body of work in a solo exhibition titled 11:11 which showcases unique nature based sculptures exploring the synchronicity of now.

Running from 26 October to 12 November 2017 at Sydney Road Gallery, the beautifully constructed and stunning pieces made from foraged plant material represent the magic of simple moments that can be easily missed in our hectic lives.

Commenting on the exhibition, Catriona Pollard explains “As a master number, 11 symbolises the link between human and spirit; darkness and light; scarcity and abundance.”

“Have you ever looked at the clock and noticed the time to be exactly 11:11? For many people it represents a single moment in time that encourages us to pause and reflect even just for a moment, and to focus our attention on our desires rather than our fears.”

Ms Pollard’s work highlights the link between raw foraged organic materials, like vines and seed pods, with earthy materials like base metals including copper, and natural elements like charcoal, clay and ash.

The exhibition features intricately woven pieces that transform the inherent beauty of nature into moments that encourage personal reflection and emotional connection.

In 11:11 Ms Pollard explores new techniques not seen before in sculptural weaving to create a collection that is visually interesting and sparks the imagination. For instance, Ms Pollard incorporated the technique of random weave with xanthorrhoea resin to weave a 2 metre high ‘cloak’ which represents the warmth of gratitude.

“All of the vine sculptures in the exhibition were the result of a chance meeting which lead to the opportunity to spend two days in a rainforest ‘dancing’ with vines. It’s moments in time that make up our lives, but more importantly, it’s being open to them.”

“Noticing 11:11 might be the only time that day that we stop and are present and understanding that we are part of something bigger. This body of work is a sculptural representation of noticing the extraordinary in every day moments.”

Ms Pollard’s work explores a deep connection with nature, highlighting the contrast with society’s current disconnection with it.  “We are so digitally connected and high-speed now, often we miss the simplicity of moments in time that nature gifts us; noticing the wind, the bird flying by and the shadow of a leaf dancing in the breeze.”

For the first time, Catriona is releasing limited edition prints of her drift wood and linen sculptures titled 11:11. “This series is visually stunning, and one of a kind, transforming 3D into 2D allowing people to have an emotional connection to the work in a different way.”

Catriona Pollard has exhibited extensively in selected and group exhibitions and this her second solo. She has been shortlisted as Emerging Artist of the Year Craft NSW, finalist Ravenswood Women’s Art Prize, Northern Beaches Art Prize, North Sydney Art Prize, Warringah Art Prize, and Mosman Art Gallery 2088.

a solo show ‘New Horizons’ by Tricia Trinder along with a group show ‘Serendipity’

The Solo Show ‘New Horizons’ by Tricia Trinder is a series of encaustic works that is a contemplation of the intriguing and soothing effect of gazing into the distance. In this series Tricia has chosen to express visually that feeling of wonderment you get whilst gazing out at the ocean horizon. Encaustic lends itself beautifully to images of water because the natural element of beeswax reflects the natural texture and translucency of water.

The new group exhibition ‘Serendipity’ explores how some of the best creations come from serendipitous moments. It might be accidently putting two colours together, or picking up an interesting piece of driftwood and it turns into something extraordinary. So much of our art is due to effort and skill, but it’s also mixed with the joy of pure serendipity. The exhibition includes paintings, textiles, sculptural and wall hanging pieces.

Dates: Thursday to Sunday from 28 September – 22 October 2017

Opening Night: 28 September 2017
Times: Thursday – Saturday 10:00am - 4:00pm and Sunday 9:00am – 12:00pm

Sydney Road Gallery presents two new exhibitions

a group show ‘Evolve’ and a duo show:  ‘I’m Sorry For The Things I Said When It Was Winter’

The new group exhibition ‘Evolve’ explores the evolution of ideas and concepts as an artist. The processes undergo evolutionary change, often evolving from simple thoughts into paintings and sculptures. The exhibition includes paintings, textiles, sculptural and wall hanging pieces.

The Duo Show ‘I’m Sorry For The Things I Said When It Was Winter’ by Artists Jessica Watts and Fiona Chandler is bursting with festive florals and celebrates that winter has finally passed and spring is in the air.

Fiona Chandler uses watercolour and ink and expresses the floral form in an engagingly graphic way.  Jessica Watts layers sumptuous textural oils over vintage wallpaper, reminding us that beauty is more about the hidden than the revealed.
